6 Reasons to Avoid Wing Street

It was 3pm on a Tuesday afternoon and through an unfortunate series of events I found myself inside of a Pizza Hut/Wing Street.

The people I was with thought it would be interesting to order wings from Pizza Hut's Wing Street. We had our choice of bone-in or bone-out wings (doesn't that just sound a little nasty....bone-out?)

The Manager warned us that the bone-out wings were a little smaller than bone-in and were actually more like nuggets.

Ok, so instead of Wing Street this place should be called Nugget Street?

We decided to go for the bone-out wings (nuggets) anyway and took a seat in the rather unattractive and dirty dining area.

Once the wings (nuggets) came out I couldn't help but be completed shocked. How does Pizza Hut/Wing Street charge for these? They looked completely disgusting....and here are 6 reasons why you should avoid them at all costs.

6 Reasons to Avoid Wing Street

1. They're overpriced. For our 10 wings (nuggets) and a small soda it was over $10.
2. It costs extra for Blue Cheese. 50 cents for 1.5oz of dressing for your wings.
3. The wings are frozen before cooked and not entirely fresh (confirmed by the manager).
4. Veins. There was one in my nugget. (At this point I stopped eating them completely).
5. The wing sauce isn't any good and half of the wings weren't even covered in it.
6. There are thousands of other places to get wings that are higher quality and taste better.

Wing Street is Pizza Hut's attempt to take advantage of their delivery business in hopes of selling more than just pizza. This is similar to what they're now doing with pasta. Their idea is that if they can make a decent quality product and deliver it to customers' front door then people will order it.

I have a better idea: stick to pizza.

  1. UGH! I hate veins in my chicken! #1 reason why I can't eat chicken off the bone, i always find those disgusting little, purply, red, rubbery veins. BLEH. my husband swears I'm crazy.

  2. Jennifer...you're not crazy, you're right. Veins in chicken are one of the most disgusting things on earth....

  3. Dan-

If you think that veins are so disgusting and chicken on a bone is so disgusting....then why not be a vegetarian?

  4. I find veins in wings anywhere. Even Buffalo Wild Wings has veins in their wings. And honestly, what restaurant nowadays doesn't freeze their products? I know some places claim they don't, but if you ship meat from somewhere out of state (which most chain restaurants do), the meat is going to be frozen, at least in transit. Freezing meat keeps it fresh much longer, as long as you don't thaw it and refreeze.

  6. I dont know about u...but it is only $6 for a 10 piece where I live. And they are 2 times the size of nuggets! The sauce is amazing!!!

  9. You people make me sick... Pizza Hut is evil, anti-good, and especially vomit-inducing. Never had worse pizza(from a chain) and don't care to try the wings. I just expect more tasteless shit that i wouldn't even feed to my dog. You want good pizza? Papa Johns. You want good wings? Don't get them from a PIZZA place...unless it's Papa John's...their wings are more than decent.

    Just an opinion... :)

  10. Pizza Hut/Wing Street wings are all really good, the crispy bone in wings are a great size, and their Spicy Asian sauce is the best ever. Also, Pizza Hut's new lasagna is wondeful, almost better than homeade, has ricotta cheese in the noodles, really awesome!

  11. If you want really good pizza, check out the local, non-chain restaurants. Pay a bit more and get a much better product most of the time. For the price of 2 chain pizza's, you can get one pizza with double the topings of the chain-2 combined. Thick, fresh and locally made.

  12. wow....judging a million dollar pizza empire, which consist of thousands of stores.....from one experience. I wish I could a expect a perfect experience from every restarant I went into. But.....whats that quote that keeps going through my head....."nobodys perfect". Bet you can't make wings worth a sh** either.

  13. You're eating essentially at a fast food restaurant, what else do you expect??

  14. Your such a tool dan, our PH out here is fantastic. The Buffalo sauce owns buffalo wild wings in flavor, and I have had no problems with boneless white meat. Your an ediot, great blog... not.

Everyone, try their wings buffalo medium is kind of hot but amazing!

  15. I strongly dislike pizza hut for making these commercials suggesting that they "secretively" served wings and pasta delivered by them and the people were "surprised" that it wasn't 5 star food. Even though this doesn't trick anyone, it definitely makes people curious enough to try them and it just feeds the stupid bullshit commercial trend that's getting worse and worse now. Commercials should be restricted to more truthful claims so that companies with all the money can't "curiousitize" the audience into wanting to try their product, and make a profit off shitty food. That's my first problem, but my second is that the food they are coming out with is stupid, like the "jackpot" of cheese inbetween the pepperoni and crust? or cheese in the crust? those are stupid marketing schemes, just like Taco Bell's "blackjack taco" with a black tortilla, I don't care if it tastes good or not, but they get this stupid food and make over-exaggerated claims about it in commercials and it's enough to drive me up a wall while just watching TV.

baaaah just typing it gets me all worked up

  16. Hey last anon, PH's food is good, and WingStreet is EXTREMELY tasty. Our local hut is clean and attractive, and most of their employees are very friendly. You getting so upset over commercials and new products quite honestly frightens me. What do you do when things really start going wrong in life?

Oh, and you also claim that this worldwide, multi-million dollar pizza chain makes a "profit off shitty food." Sound logic based upon the fact it's the #1 pizza chain, right?

  17. If you don't like It don't go. Keep your dumbass opinion to yourself. You sound like a 5 year old compaining. Don't be such a dick. Try being nice to people and positive. Your life will be better and so will the peoples who have to be around you. And...what do you expect with the vein. Its a dead animal!

    The irony here is palpable.

    * * *

I stumbled across this searching for "pizza hut wings made me sick" to see if anyone had similar experiences with their sauces. Flavorwise, the sauce was okay. I had a couple of wings over at someone's house, and felt super sick afterwards. This morning I woke up and drank about three bottles of water in a row. I'm going to guess it's the high sodium content.

Their wings were glorified frozen nuggets that you can get at the grocery store in the frozen food aisle. I don't really like any of the fast food wings I've tried for the simple reason that you should be able to get your wings crispy without a thick layer of breading. BW3 wasn't bad at all, though their wings were a little skinny. Unfortunately we don't have one here :(

  25. No idea what you're taking about but every wing street I've been to, they're wings are completely different then you're description, also none of ours have a dining area it's all for take out... There's one bench that sits about 6 people... I found this review attempting to get a part time mommy job bc our wing streets are completely different... Most likely it's your district it's not all wing streets.. Just like all fast food places, there are those that suck but there are nices ones that food rates better, there an olive garden where I live, they get 35 demerits with the health inspector everytime, my neighbor came down with ecoli from eating a bad meatball... Doctor told him if he was 2 years older or 38 yrs younger it would have killed him... It's not just wing street... Maybe you should write a review on your "location" instead of all wing streets

  29. The breading on them is incredibly disgusting! I ordered some for the first time the other night. Asked the lady to cook them for a bit longer. They arrived and I expected regular chicken wings. I tried 5 of them and the breading made them way too greasy and there was very little meat on them. I think they got these from dwarf chickens. The grease made me feel sick after 5 of them. I felt ripped off because I spent 22 bucks after I had to pay for 4 tiny round dishes of bleu cheese dressing because that was "extra" as they don't give any dipping sauce. I finally called the manager who informed me that you have to specifically say that you want "traditional" chicken wings. He did refund the price of the wings, so that part was good. I was really disappointed in Wingstreet and doubt I'll ever order wings again. The remaining wings are in the garbage.

  32. Uh, Dan probably won't even read this! His Job, is to "slam" the Corporate or franchisee businesses. Its all about Marketing-who do you think pays him??? Anyway, it comes down to who is managing the store. I will agree with him that if I saw a dirty restaurant, I would probably be on the neg side too. Consistency, in indpendant and corporate restaurants will always be a battle, again it comes down to management! I agree again that first impressions are very important-but, Murphys Law slips in at times, but still doesnt give Dan a one time report to be fair, its more of a bias review. Yes, the Pizza is good and so is the PASTA! I have ordered the wings numerous times and have been satisfied. Its Chicken and do you think the machine that pulls out that bone is thinking, "OOPS, Vein"! HAHA! Eat up!

  33. Every restaurant seems to make them in a different way,.... sounds like many do not like them from the Hut! I do not like pizza from the Hut or Domino's... local Green owned are more expensive but you get more food on one pizza than you get on two from the two for one chains and the pizza is so much better. It is all a matter of taste! I go to a pub and bet GREAT wings for $0.30 each three days a week.. they have lots more flavour and beat any restaurant chain any day of the week!
    ReplyDelete
  34. Meant to say Greek owned, not Green owned! sorry for the typo!

  35. you guys are crazy. Pizza Hut/Wing street is the bomb.Their buffalo wings are a good reason to use $10

Just wanted to say i found this when i was searching for their phone #, because i'm on my way their in a half hour....i go there once a week...its remodeled, clean and everyone that works there has always been great...as for the food, i like the wings, but the best is the honey bar-b-q chicken sandwich...mmm cant wait....as for the crybabies, dont go there if u feel u r getting ripped off or dont like it....i feel its a great deal, everytime i go with my g/f, we both get our meals and are full for only about $14 total...not bad if u ask me
