The Forbidden Blog Post

I cheated on my wife yesterday. With food.

Specifically, I went to Cold Stone Creamery behind her back, got amazing ice cream and then confessed. Since then, she has forbidden me to post on this blog about my experience at Cold Stone.

If I was allowed to write about my experience...I would tell you that all of Cold Stone's ice cream is homemade in store and that it takes them 13 hours and 9 minutes to make one flavor. Until yesterday I had no idea they took the time and energy to make all of their ice cream using real ingredients, instead of just having it sent in a tub from one distribution center. You can tell the difference in the taste. It's smooth, creamy, fresh and worth the premium price.
But, I didn't tell you that.

  1. After 2-3 visits to Cold Stone, it was obvious that the ice cream is made there, because it is very inconsistent. I would guess that the reason Cold Stones are going out of business at a rapid clip, this is at least partly the reason - every time you order a product, it's different.

Who wants that? I prefer Ben & Jerry's or Baskin Robbins, where the flavors are properly produced and are correct and consistent from time to time.

I'm happy you seem to have a "good" Cold Stone, because from what I've heard most of them are pretty bad.

  2. When I used to be in girl scouts, in order to get one of our badges, we had to learn how something was made, and of course we all wanted to know how ice cream was made. So, we took a field trip to none other than Cold Stone Creamery and we got to go into the super secret back room where they make all their delicious ice creams, and helped them make their peanut butter ice cream. They use Peter Pan peanut butter.

  3. the previous anonymous post is ridiculous -- that's like saying you prefer frozen, packaged food over high-end restaurants that prepare the meals made-to-order because of inconsistency.

any establishment that puts as much care into their offerings as cold stone gets my vote hands down.
