Beyond the Burrito

Is your regular burrito at Chipotle getting you down? Looking for a change? Feel like saving a few bucks?

Lucky for you Chipotle has a whole other menu they haven't even told you about.

Some call it the secret menu. I call it - Beyond the Burrito.

Let me give you the breakdown on all of the Chipotle menu items you are missing out on:

1. The New Line

Quite possibly the most advanced beyond the burrito menu item that Chipotle offers. Only a few true fans have the knowledge and skill to pull this off.

If you only get 4 total items in your burrito or bowl you could be saving yourself $2 every time you visit Chipotle.

You pick 4 items, such as: rice, meat, cheese, lettuce and you have yourself a "new line item". Be sure to tell the cashier with confidence that it's a "new line" and they will ring you up for just over $4. Be warned, the tortilla counts as one of the items.

2. Two Side Items

If you don't want to take full advantage of the amazing ingredients Chipotle has to offer, then you may qualify to be the two side items guy.

If you get a bowl with just rice, lettuce and cheese you don't even qualify for a "new line" you have now entered "two side items" world. Here you will only pay about $3. It doesn't get any better than that.

3. Quesadilla for me

Let me guess. You haven't tried Chipotle yet because you're obsessed with the quesadillas at Moe's. Bad call.

The Chipotle quesadilla puts Moe's to shame. You can get any combination of ingredients you want and you can order it in the big burrito shell or small taco shells. When you walk up to order say: Chicken Quesadilla. They won't look at you strange or try to kick you out.

4. One Taco, Two Taco, Three Taco

If you're only in the mood for one taco, it will cost you about $1.25. Don't feel obligated to take the menu on the wall as the final answer. You have the ability to be flexible with the item you order and the price.

After this short overview, you should be able to visit Chipotle with authority knowing that you hold the secrets to a world of non menu items that taste amazing and save you money.

Live Beyond the Burrito.

  1. Wait--what? Where did you get this information! I want to know! Because Chipotle only just got so much better in my eyes after reading this.

  2. This is great. "New line item" works like a charm! My wife and I normally split a burrito, so I don't go alone. But for $4.25 for 4 items, I will go by myself (or with a non-splitting friend) much more often.

Also, during lunch you can get rice without cilantro. I love the cilantro-lime rice, but my wife hates cilantro on anything. I also got the corn salsa without cilantro (still had jalepeño, not a problem for me.)

I guess they add the cilantro when they put these items on the line. These special requests were fulfilled by the great staff on University Blvd. I say 'during lunch' because they have an abundance of hot saran-wrapped rice and salsa.

Their simple, choice-limiting menu (along with the rest of their business design) gets people in and out quick. But their flexibility is what sets them apart in quality. Thanks so much for the inside info! Like Angela, Chipotle just got that much better to me.

  4. Believe it or not - the New Line at Chipotle does exsist. Not sure why never heard of it, but I have ordered the New Line at several different Chipotle locations and my brother gets a quesadilla on a regular basis. Check it out next time you're there and let me know how it goes.

  6. The store at Astor Place in NYC claimed that meat counts as "2 points" and refused to give me the line item price for a burrito bowl with meat, rice, peppers and lettuce. Is there any way I can verify this with corporate?

  7. aph - I have never heard of meat counting as "2 points" before. Sounds like a local restaurant trying to bend the rules more than they should. I would contact Chipotle directly. If you go to chipotle.com and click on the contact section you can send them an email. I have contacted them before and they usually are very good about responding.

  8. Yesterday I was told I would no longer be able to get the cheaper "line item" price for my Tortilla, Steak, Rice and Cheese burrito and that the policy had changed "very recently."

  9. This explains the line item policy pretty well and and I got it directly from a Chipotle correspondance posted on another blog. "Our items are given point values based on how much those items cost us to make. More expensive items like meat and guacamole are given two points. Tortillas and taco shells are given zero points and everything else is given one point. If your order comes to three points or less, you are given the reduced price."
